Chuck Moffit solo show at Eric Buterbaugh Gallery marries contemporary furniture making, floral design, and olfactory.

Mt. Baldy-based artist/maker Chuck Moffit and Los Angeles florist/perfumer Eric Buterbaugh are collaborating on a mashup of creative disciplines, to produce a new show of work juxtaposing aesthetics of hard and soft, masculine and feminine, visible and invisible. The show, with the Promise of Nectar, is inspired by a mutual fascination for scent…

“Scent has the most powerful connection to memory and we are always surprised by its strength. The outcome of this work is almost glacial grinding of heavy material against weightless scent is what we set in motion.” – Chuck Moffit.

ABOUT CHUCK MOFFIT:
Moffit’s aesthetic is in equal parts inspired by the rugged tactility of artist Richard Serra and the transgressive purposefulness of fashion designer Hussein Chalayan. Moffit’s designs challenge conventional assumptions of fine and decorative arts. Moffit received his MFA from Claremont Graduate University in 2000, and has been quietly developing his body of work under the radar since.
