Coagula Curatorial: IDENTITY a solo exhibition by Dave Naz

Coagula Curatorial presents Identity, a solo exhibition by Dave Naz which explores the gender spectrum in an entirely new way – by turning his camera on transgender, intersex, pangender, and every shade in between. Helping to add to the current global discussion on the structured nature of gender identity, the exhibit is an eyeopening musing on all of the people who don’t fit neatly into a convenient box. The show will run from November 8 – December 27, 2014.

Concurrent with the exhibit, Naz is releasing his eighth book Genderqueer: And Other Gender Identities, published through Rare Bird Books. Genderqueer is an exploration of many different identities along the spectrum of sex and gender, with essays by many of Naz’s photographic subjects on how they identify their own gender. Featuring beautiful full-color photographs by Naz, the photographer offers a much needed voice in the discussion about trans, intersex, genderqueer, and other gender iterations, and the discrimination people who don’t fit into the gender binary often feel.

Dave Naz’s Identity exhibit at Coagula Curatorial and his accompanying book Genderqueer: And Other Gender Identities positively adds to the larger discussion about trans and queer recognition, which many have called the next big civil rights issue.

Born in Los Angeles in 1969, Dave Naz is a photographer whose work revolves around the varied identities and personae of our time. He has published seven books, and his eighth book, Genderqueer, coming out from Rare Bird Books in 2014. Naz’s photographs are shown in galleries all over the world. His work has appeared in GQ, Maxim, Stern.de, and Salon. Several of Naz’s photos appear in the artwork.
