In mutating various methodologies of painting’s past, Bradley utilizes Photoshop to order the information. This allows his work to investigate the languages of painting distanced from the original source and with a dispassionate eye. Of course, during the actual painting, some intuitive elements return, but they are subordinate to the conceptual structures of his process. The results are bold and bright abstract paintings that remind us of the history of abstraction, of doodling and mark-making through the lens of formal planning, leaving in question the role of the artist’s hand while simultaneously exploiting it.
